The second season of NBC’s Quantum Leap only has two more episodes left, and cast members Raymond Lee, Caitlin Bassett, and Ernie Hudson spoke with me during the Television Critics Association winter press tour about what’s in store for their characters as the season wraps up.
“I don’t want to give too much away because these next two episodes are really important, for not only Ben and Addison but for the entire story,” Lee, who plays Leaper Dr. Ben Song, told me. “Everything that we’ve worked towards in the past thirty-some-odd episodes, it’s all building toward something that’s going to be a very, I think, healing end. Or a beginning.”
It’s not a spoiler to say that Lee’s Ben and Bassett’s Addison have seen their relationship go through a lot over the course of the show, and where they might end up is, like many things, up in the air. Lee shared, however, that the two will always be important to each other. “I feel like Ben and Addison are connected no matter what,” he said. “He wouldn’t be part of the project without her, he wouldn’t be leaving the project without her. No matter where we choose to go, we’re always going to be linked.”
“We’ve moved into a place where the future has a ton of possibilities,” added Bassett. “We’re just so proud of what we’ve done, and we really want to go on this ride for the last. And you’ll see how special it is.”
I also asked Hudson about what’s in store for Magic, and it’s here I’ll add a spoiler warning for the latest episode, “The Outsider.”
In that episode, Magic ends up leaving the Quantum Leap project to save the jobs of Ian (Mason Alexander Park) and Jenn (Nanrisa Lee). “I think that he has to do some serious thinking, and to try to avoid getting drunk,” Hudson said. “The last two episodes will reveal a lot of things, but for Magic, it’s a real critical time for him, it’s very important for him to realize everything he’s worked for is really on the line.”
“You’ll see why he’s going through it,” teased Bassett. “Because Magic goes through it!”
Quantum Leap episodes drop on Tuesdays on NBC at 10:00 p.m. ET and stream the next day on Peacock.
